Turps Banana

Alt-MFA Painting

painting-2021.jpg
2020-21
The past few years of development have increasingly shifted my practice towards painting. As the work and hours piled up in the studio, my engagement deepened further still. I therefore expanded the conversation beyond my walls in 2020 and linked up with Turps Banana as I push forward on my journey.

Ever a champion of alternative channels of exchange, Turps, like The Syllabus, is a pioneer of arts eduction in the UK and is uniquely focused on the Painting medium. Its iconic publication about painting written by painters remains at its core. And the off-site programme provides a platform for exchange, mentoring, peer-led learning, talks and discussion.

Stay tuned. More to come....

Alternative Art School Weekender

Ugly Duck, Bermondsey / Curated by TOMA

AlternativeWeekender-2019.jpg
As an alumnus of The Syllabus, I'm taking part in an important event focused on art education and public engagement, curated by TOMA.
The Alternative Art School Weekender is a creative project inviting you to be part of a growing network of people who are self organising to reconsider the shape of academic art education and how these shifts in ethics and practice might challenge the state of
the art establishment.
Come and join our seriously fun playground where you can be both student and teacher; where debates happen over pot luck meals and visions of the future are shared. Expect a performance night, critical theory, alternative food making, group walks, talks on art and activism and collaborative workshops.

Aesthetica Art Prize

Longlisted Artist

TylerMallison-AestheticaPrize-2019.jpeg
I'm pleased to announce that Working Prototype (Proposition for a better way of working), 2017  has been long listed and will feature in the 2019 Future Now anthology for sculpture.
Covering a range of themes from technology, urbanisation and digitisation to population growth and ecological destruction and climate change, the artworks presented in the 2019 edition of the Aesthetica Art Prize Exhibition (8 March – 14 July, York Art Gallery) draw on both personal and universal narratives. In the age of globalisation, culture is becoming homogenised and identity is fluid. What does this mean for the individual?

What are the threats that make the professional lives of creatives in London just as challenging as survival in the desert? Inspired by Chameaux D’Acier, the life-saving transformation of a Citroen 2CV that broke down in the Western Sahara desert into a working motorcycle, Tools of Resilience brings together artists and interdisciplinary practitioners to explore these narratives and the process of making, in the context of London as a Megacity Desert.
